Landmark Harcourts Benchmark | 23 Tasmania Regional house and rural property sales trended 1.0% higher over the twelve months ending March 2018. 8,705 sales were recorded over the year, with residential houses comprising 71% of settled sales over the year. The rise in sales activity was confined to the residential housing sector where the number of sales was up 4.0%, more than offsetting a 5.9% fall in sales activity across the rural and agricultural sector. With both volumes and values trending higher, the gross value of sales across regional Tasmania increased by 5.8% over the twelve months to March 2018. Once again, the rise in overall value of sales was limited to the residential housing sector where the gross value of sales tracked 11.1% higher over the year. The value of rural and agricultural property sales was down 5.0% over the year. Across each of Tasmania’s three sub-regions, residential house sales were up by 4.0% over the past twelve months, with the highest number of sales recorded across the Launceston and North East region (2,927 sales). Focussing on the rural sector, the South East was the only subregion to record a rise in sales activity. 835 rural and agricultural property sales were recorded across the South East region, up 1.7% on last year.
