The fall in transactional activity was comprised of a 2.0% drop in residential house sales and a 3.4% decline in rural and agricultural property sales. The relatively soft conditions were exacerbated by regional areas such as Townsville, where settled sales were 8.7% lower for houses and 16.1% lower for rural and agricultural properties over the year. The Toowoomba region also showed a substantial fall in activity, with house sales down 7.7% and rural sales falling 12.1% over the past twelve months. Not all sub-regions recorded falling activity; the Darling Downs-Maranoa area showed a 12.3% lift in residential house sales and rural property sales increased by 5.0% over the year. Residential house sales held firm over the year in Mackay and Wide Bay, while Mackay also recorded an 8.0% lift in rural property sales. While activity generally trended lower over the past year, so too did the gross value of sales. The twelve months to March 2018 saw $10.4 billion in regional house and rural property sales which was down 3.6% relative to the previous year.
